...VALENTINE!

We know why we celebrate Christmas, Easter and since a decade or so the late Michael Jackson epic "Thriller" memorial, Halloween, but what about Valentine?

In a nutshell: it's a blood affair and not a Romeo & Juliette thing. Simply the killing of a couple of Saints named 'Valentine' on the 14th of February. Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1343 – 25 October 1400), the father of English literature best know for his "The Canterbury Tales", was thinking of how he could make some pocket money, saw a niche & introduced courtly love in the Middle Ages probably to counterbalance all the slaughtering. The 14th of Feb. got harpooned as D-Day giving it the dead saints names because that's how it worked in those days. The red roses, restaurant buzz etc... as we know now are in fact a massive medieaval merchandising success 'slash' hangover. Depending on your Facebook status, Chaucer will be the man to "fame" or blame. :-)
